The Pink-Bellied Side-Neck Turtle is widely considered one of the most beautiful and personable aquatic turtles in the world. Native to Papua New Guinea and Australia, they are famous for their vibrant coral-pink to salmon-colored bellies (plastrons) and their unique "side-neck" posture—instead of pulling their heads straight back, they tuck them sideways under the rim of their shell.

Unlike many other aquatic species, Pink-Bellies are exceptionally active and "dog-like," often swimming to the front of the glass to greet their keepers.

Product Highlights

  • Vibrant Coloration: Features a sleek, dark charcoal carapace that contrasts sharply with a bright pink underbelly and a striking yellow stripe behind the eyes.

  • Highly Social: These turtles are curious, alert, and much more interactive than typical pond turtles.

  • Expert Swimmers: They are incredibly graceful in the water and thrive in setups with plenty of swimming room.

  • Beginner Friendly: Known for being hardy and having a mild temperament, making them suitable for community tanks with peaceful fish or other turtles.

Quick Care Specs

  • Max Adult Size: Males stay compact at 15–18 cm, while females can grow up to 25 cm.

  • Lifespan: 30–50 years with proper care.

  • Water Depth: They are strong swimmers and prefer deeper water than many other species. Ensure the water is at least 2–3 times the length of their shell.

  • Diet: Primarily carnivorous. They love high-protein pellets, bloodworms, shrimp, and small feeder fish, but will occasionally nibble on aquatic plants.

  • Temperature: Prefers warm, tropical water (24–28°C) and a basking spot of 32–35°C.
