Thanks to its particular structure, it is useful both to retain dirt particles and to act as a support for the establishment of the bacterial flora necessary for biological filtration of the water.
Through careful rinsing under tap water, it can be cleaned and reused several times. If it is used as a support for the establishment of filtering bacteria, it is recommended to clean it only in the aquarium water, previously taken and placed in a bucket, so that the chlorine present in the tap water cannot kill the bacterial flora present.
In general, it is recommended to clean it every 2-4 weeks when used solely as a material for mechanical filtration.
When it is also used for biological filtration, clean it if necessary, or when it is clogged and the flow of water in the filter is too slow.
